Chasing Hearts Read online

Page 5

It was a week later they released Daniel from the hospital. Katie had drove him home

along with the wheel chair he would be using for a short time until he could regain all his

  strength back.

Daniel’s mom was just finishing up making his favorite home made chicken noodle

soup. "It’s ready when ever you are, sweet heart."

  'Knock, knock.'

"Your popular." Katie says as she stands up to see who was at the door. "Jay! Come on

  in."

Jay was carrying a rented tux and set it on across the back of the couch. "This, my man

is yours, and we will finish planning out the wedding when you start feeling better."

Daniel sits up straighter. "No. You should go ahead."

"I talked it over with Delilah. It won't be a good wedding without our best man,"

  Jay insisted.

Katie stands close listing to everything. She was always to curious for her own good.

  "Am I invited?" She teases.

  "Of course you are ma’am!"

"I would have to say, you've never looked better." Daniel says as he's finishing tying

  Jay’s bow tie.

"I'm as scared as a rattle snake!" Jay shudders.

In the other room Katie helps Delilah with her long fitted white dress. "From what I hear

from Jay we really should have had a double wedding!" Delilah mentions. Katie only

smiles as she finishes up. "There!" Katie says pleased.

Delilah runs her fingers over her dress. "Oh boy. This is it," She says. "This is it."The

music starts. "And here we go," Says Katie as she opens the door for the brides maids

to start heading out. Then she sees Daniel, tall and handsome, in his tux. They smile for

the moment, and then she gave the cue for the maid of honor, and the best man to walk

  down the aisle.

As Daniel takes Delilah's sister’s arm to walk down the aisle, he can see Jay standing,

so stiff, but so happy. His red thick hair combed back and jelled. His face spotless

besides his freckles. “Who would of thought he could clean up so well?” He thought.

Taking a seat to the side, they watch the others come out to do the same. Then the

  music changes.

That’s when Daniel sees Katie waiting to help Delilah. Katie was so elegant in her tea-

green dress and high heels. He couldn’t stop smiling at her.

Jay couldn't stand up any straighter as Delilah begins to walk down the aisle. Her light

brown hair perfectly curled and her pale pink lips so soft. They stare into each others

  eyes not once breaking once.

"Do you Jay Grant take this woman to care for through sickness and health until death

  do we part?"

"I do, and beyond." The whole place roared in laughter. Jays humor was always a

spontaneous surprise, yet, he meant every word he said.

"Do you Delilah Thompson take this man to care for in sickness and in health until

  death do we part?"

"I do, and beyond." She smiles.

"Then you may kiss your bride."

Then new Mr. and Mrs. Grant run out so fast everyone gets up to follow too! By the time

Daniel and Katie found each other outside, Jay was on top on his truck and helping his

wife up top too! People took pictures as they give each other a smooch.

  Squeals ran through those watching.

Daniel takes Katie's hand and they make there way through the crowd. They get in

there own car and Daniel lines it up with Jay’s.

"Go, Jay, go! Go, Jay, go!" The crowd encourages. They were about to race out of there

when the Officer Conner stands out in front of the cars, face as stern as could be.

Daniel looks at Jay, and Jay looks back. It was his wedding day and this has to

happen? Then, to their surprise, Officer Conner smiles, and raises his hand. The crowd

  cheers!

Officer Conner gives Daniel a look as if his was the only time he would allow this, but he

should really know better, Daniel thought.

As soon as his arm drops, both cars take speeding off! Everyone gives another cheer

  as they chase after them.

Daniel and Katie sit together under the shade of maple tree, away from the reception

hall. They watch everyone having a good time dancing to the blaring loud music. As

  they should be.

“Promise you wont leave me,” Katie tells Daniel as they intertwine there hands. Daniel

turning to her rests his head on hers and smiles. “I promise.”
